As for all other
State Schools, since January 2012 the Australian National Curriculum has been used as the basis for program
development at Pine Rivers Special School.
Because of the
fragmented nature of many children’s learning, considerable adjustment will be
required for many of our students. This will be recorded within their
Individual Curriculum Plan.
Individual Curriculum Plan
Each semester,
teachers are required to meet with parents to discuss the child’s progress of
their learning and to negotiate the adjusted level of curriculum which will be
offered. The identification of the Year Level of Curriculum that will be
accessed also identifies the year level standards against which the child will
be assessed.
This is also an
opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss any issues impacting upon the
child’s engagement in learning attributed to their disability and to develop a
plan to address these.
Areas
addressed may include:
- Communication,
- Sensory Processing,
- Gross and Fine Motor Development,
- Social Participation and Emotional
Well-being
- Health and Personal Care,
- Access to the Curriculum, and
- Safety
If the child is in
the Care and Protection of the Department of Communities (Child Safety), there
is an additional requirement to develop an Educational Support Plan (ESP) to
address any additional concerns.
